Prior to obtaining a degree as a family nurse practitioner, Brookanne provided patient care to post surgical patients in a hospital setting. After graduating with her MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner, she worked in an autonomous clinic setting offering care to the low income and underserved population with multiple chronic health problems. The majority of patients were adults with complex physical, emotional, social and economic challenges. Unfortunately, during this time, she was seriously injured in a bicycle vs. automobile accident. After months of hospitalization and rehab, she returned to work with a new appreciation for appropriate pain management.
Brookanne then accepted a position as the Acute Pain Service Coordinator at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. Along with providing bedside care to acute and chronic pain patients, she collaborated with physicians and nurses to develop acute pain education module for the hospital staff. She taught pain management principles for new primary care orientation and monthly classes for RN’s working in the hospital. Brookanne worked on the Corporate Pain Team to write policies for IHC and Continuous Quality Improvement for pain management; preparing the hospital for JCAHO accreditation review on pain.
After moving to St. George, Brookanne worked in a chronic pain management clinic for 10 years prior to joining the Southwest Spine and Pain Care Center team. She is caring and compassionate about pain management.
